New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis knows a thing or two about the importance of postseason positioning. In 2015, Davis led the Pelicans to the playoffs, ranking eighth in the Western Conference. The Pelicans stole the final spot of the playoffs from the Oklahoma City Thunder, who lost Kevin Durant to a foot injury.

Although it was an impressive feat for Davis and the Pelicans to make the postseason with a limited roster, they soon met their match against the eventual 2015 NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors. Despite their best efforts, the Pelicans were easily swept by the Warriors and stood almost no chance at all. Now in 2018, Davis wants to avoid making the same mistake.

The Pelicans are currently ranked fourth in the Western Conference. Though, with the way the positioning in the West has shaped up, a single loss can propel the Pelicans further down the standings. Davis has remained focus on securing homecourt advantage in the 2018 NBA playoffs and believes that it should be the Pelicans main concern. According to Jim Eichenhofer of Pelicans.com, Davis believes that positioning is better than rest.

Anthony Davis, asked if earning a top-4 seed is important to the #Pelicans, who are currently 4th: “Of course homecourt in the playoffs definitely helps a little bit more (than the regular season). Our goal is to make sure we get in the playoffs, and worry about the rest later”

The Pelicans surely have a chance of securing homecourt advantage in the postseason. With the excellent recent play of Davis lately, the Pelicans have been one of the hottest teams in the league. If Davis continues to play well, he can easily lead the Pelicans to a high postseason spot and secure homecourt advantage.
