New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis is undoubtedly one of the best players in the NBA. What makes him special is how he can affect the game on both ends of the floor using his unique combination of size, length, skill and athleticism. Last year, Davis was a member of the NBA's All-Defensive First Team together with his current teammate Jrue Holiday.

This offseason, the Pelicans added Elfrid Payton who is also known as one of the league's best perimeter defenders. In a recent interview, Davis thinks that the tandem of Holiday and Payton is the best defensive backcourt in the NBA. In a tweet from Pelicans writer Jim Eichenhofer,

Anthony Davis on Jrue Holiday and Elfrid Payton: “I feel like we have the best defensive backcourt in the game. Those two guys on the ball is ridiculous… just seeing it live and getting a chance to play for real (at Houston) when it matters, it was fun to watch.”

Both guys are feisty defenders and can put a lot of pressure on opposing backcourts. Having a guy like Anthony Davis as a last line defender also helps them as they can get up on defenders without worrying too much of being blown by.

You can definitely make a case that the pairing of Holiday and Payton is the league's best backcourt. Other backcourts to consider are John Wall and Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards, and Russell Westbrook and Andre Roberson of the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, it remains to be seen if their defensive prowess can lead to a deep playoff run.
