The New Orleans Pelicans are still clinging to a little bit of hope with regards to their playoffs aspirations this season. Unfortunately, they have just been dealt a huge blow with reports emerging that All-Star forward Brandon Ingram has suffered a low ankle sprain on his left foot.

Ingram apparently sustained the injury during Tuesday's win over the Golden State Warriors. He is currently being listed as day-to-day (h/t Marc Stein of the New York Times):

New Orleans' next game is on Friday against the mighty Philadelphia 76ers, so it is a bit concerning that Ingram has been ruled out a day in advance of that matchup. Then again, the fact that he's being listed as day-to-day is somewhat encouraging.

The Pelicans have just six games remaining on their schedule and they are currently sitting at the 11th spot in the West. They are, however, just two games behind the San Antonio Spurs who are at 10th. At this point, a spot in the highly-criticized play-in tournament is still very much attainable for New Orleans.

It goes without saying though, that they will need their stars to be healthy for one final push. Ingram is currently the best player on the Pelicans roster and losing him will serve as a significant blow for this team's postseason aspirations. As such, it would not be surprising if he ends up playing in New Orleans' final few games even if he isn't one hundred percent.
