New Orleans Pelicans combo guard Jrue Holiday paid homage to the late Kobe Bryant on Tuesday night prior to his team's game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Holiday wore a shirt with the phrase ā€œGirl Dadā€ written across the front, which calls to mind Bryant's love for his four daughters:

The ā€œGirl Dadā€ moniker became attached to Bryant thanks in part to a segment by ESPN's Elle Duncan, who detailed an encounter she had with Kobe in which he spoke reverently about being a father of all girls:

The Pelicans guard Holiday became a girl dad when his daughter, Jrue Tyler (J.T.) was born in September of 2016.

The 29-year-old has always been a consummate family man, and he has dealt with his fair share of scares as far as loved ones are concerned.

Holiday's wife, Lauren, was one of the stars of the 2015 U.S. Women's Soccer team that captured the FIFA Women's World Cup, but she was diagnosed with a brain tumor when she was six months pregnant with J.T.

Fortunately, Lauren was able to give birth to a healthy baby girl, and she had the tumor successfully removed shortly thereafter. Still, the experience was quite nerve-wracking for Jrue, who missed the entire preseason and 12 regular-season games during the 2016-17 campaign.

The Holiday's certainly have many reasons to be thankful, but their experiences also shed perspective on how family is more important than basketball.

Rest assured, Jrue will hope to carry on Bryant's legacy of being a good father, and a loving ā€œGirl Dad.ā€
