New Orleans Pelicans’ official Twitter reacts to getting No. 1 overall pick

David Griffin, Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans went into the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery hoping to come out with a bit of a jump. They were projected to hold the No. 7 overall pick and only had a 6.0% chance to win the No. 1 overall pick and a 19% chance to jump into the top three. Thankfully, a miracle happened that could turn everything around in New Orleans.

Not only did the Pelicans jump into the top three, they ended up winning the No. 1 overall pick. Obviously, that will give them the chance to draft Duke superstar prospect Zion Williamson.

Following the jump to No. 1, the Pelicans’ Twitter account posted on Twitter and reacted in the perfect way.

New Orleans fans should be ecstatic about this turn of events. Even though reports have come out that Anthony Davis still wants a trade out of town, Williamson is widely viewed as the best draft prospect that the NBA has seen since LeBron James came out of high school back in 2003.

This is going to be huge for their ticket sales, as the Twitter post suggests. The fans have begun watching the games from home over the last couple of seasons, but that is going to change.

Fans will be coming out in bunches to see Williamson take the court. It seems impossible that New Orleans would consider taking anyone else at No. 1, although Ja Morant is a very good player himself. Williamson will turn the team around from a personnel and season ticket sales perspective.

It’s always good to see a struggling franchise find some luck in the lottery. David Griffin and the Pelicans will now have a perfect building block to start their future.
