It turns out new New Orleans Pelicans vice president of basketball operations and team development Swin Cash is a big fan of Jrue Holiday.

Cash expressed her admiration for Holiday to The Bird Writes editor-in-chief Oleh Kosel on June 11.

Cash also told Kosel that Holiday is the type of player a team can build around.

The Pelicans issued a press release announcing Cash's hire on Tuesday. She told the team's official website she will lean on her previous experience to excel in her new role.

I am so excited to join the New Orleans Pelicans as vice president of basketball operations/team development.

I will use my experience as a professional athlete in the WNBA, vice president of the WNBPA, businesswoman and philanthropist, along with the knowledge I've gained as a front office executive, to cultivate the organization's basketball culture on the court and in the community.

Cash averaged 10.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists for five teams in her 15-year WNBA tenure. After she announced her retirement in 2016, she became the New York Liberty's director of franchise development in January 2017, per the Pelicans' official website.

As for Holiday, he underwent successful season-ending core muscle surgery on March 26. Prior to that, he enjoyed the most successful season in his 10-year NBA career. He averaged 21.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 7.7 assists in the 2018-19 NBA season.

Holiday should return with a vengeance in the 2019-20 NBA campaign. The Pelicans won just 33 games this season. New Orleans should make Zion Williamson the first overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft next week. If Anthony Davis bolts out, expect Holiday and Williamson to carry the load for the Pelicans.
