New Orleans Pelicans rookie sensation Zion Williamson begged head coach Alvin Gentry to keep him in the game as he caught fire in the fourth quarter during his NBA debut.

Williamson had only mustered five points during the first three quarters, but he then scorched the San Antonio Spurs for 17 straight points before being subbed out for the remainder of the game.

“Coach, I can win the game for this team. Leave me in,” begged Williamson, according to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.

The fans were also imploring to leave their prized rookie in the game, as he was finding holes through the Spurs' defense and giving the Pelicans a much-needed boost.

Williamson had played 11 minutes and 40 seconds before entering at the start of the fourth quarter. His run wouldn't get started until the 8:52 mark of the period, ending with a free throw and consequently getting pulled out of the game with 5:23 left in regulation.

The Pelicans kept the rookie below the 20 minutes he was expected to play, but executive vice president David Griffin and Gentry made it very clear he was only supposed to play in four-to-five-minute bursts.

The decision to yank him out was preventative, and more of a medical staff matter than it was Gentry's, who was only following the orders of the team.

The Pelicans fell shy of a win against the eighth-seeded Spurs, but that fourth-quarter spark from Williamson has everyone in The Big Easy raving about his talent and what he can do for the city once he goes through the gears.
