Supporters of the New Orleans Pelicans can now breathe a sigh of relief with regard to the status of their young phenom, Zion Williamson.

NBA insider Shams Charania has just revealed that after returning from a quick personal trip outside the Disney World bubble, Williamson should be available for his team's first scrimmage game on Thursday against the Indiana Pacers.

That's excellent news for the Pelicans, who will need their star rookie in the restart as they hope to secure a playoff spot in a ruthless Western Conference. There was initial doubts about Zion's availability, but since there were no complications following his departure from the bubble — including testing negative for COVID-19 — Williamson has gotten the clear from the league.

The Pelicans are currently 10th in the West, and are three and a half games behind the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies. The odds may be stacked against them, but they still have an odd chance of making it to the postseason this term.

Zion has been outstanding for the Pelicans since he made his debut in January following a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury. The 20-year-old has put up averages of 23.6 points (on 58.9 percent shooting), 6.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 19 games played for New Orleans.

It's been so far so good for the former Duke standout, and at this point, he has been able to live up to the lofty expectations many had on him prior to his arrival in the NBA.
