Should Marc Gasol opt out of his contract with the Toronto Raptors, the New Orleans Pelicans will have interest in signing the big man, according to Fletcher Mackel of WDSU.

Gasol has a $25.6 million player option for the 2019-20 campaign.

The 34-year-old split the 2018-19 campaign between the Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors. He began the season with the Grizzlies but was then traded to the Raptors at the deadline and went on to win his first NBA championship.

On the season overall, Gasol played in 79 games and averaged 13.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks over 30.8 minutes per game while shooting 44.8 percent from the floor, 36.3 percent from three-point range and 75.9 percent from the free-throw line.

The Spaniard was originally selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round (48th pick overall) of the 2007 NBA Draft, but was then dealt to the Grizzlies in a trade that sent his brother, Pau, to the Lakers during the 2007-08 campaign.

Gasol saw his first NBA action in 2008-09 and didn't take long to become one of the best centers in the league. By his fourth season, Gasol was an All-Star as a result of registering 14.6 points, 8.9 boards, 3.1 assists, 1.9 blocks and one steal a night while playing outstanding defense, which also led to Gasol earning the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Overall, Gasol made three All-Star teams during his 10-and-a-half year tenure with Memphis.

He owns career averages of 15 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.5 blocks across 33.4 minutes a night while making 48.3 percent of his field-goal attempts, 35 percent of his triples and 77.7 percent of his foul shots.
