Las Vegas – It was New Orleans Pelicans rookie Trey Murphy's first trip to Sin City. In his first Summer League game, he put the NBA world on notice. He displayed a skill of his that can evolve him into elite status. That talent is his shooting mastership.

Murphy wasted no time getting started. The No. 17 pick in the draft went 6-of-9 from three and finished the game with a game-high 26 points. The Pelicans defeated the Chicago Bulls in that matchup 94-77.

At 6-foot-9, he's an extremely long wing who could potentially develop into something special. Murphy has aspirations of being an NBA All-Star and winning NBA championships. Those are necessary goals if you want to be elite in this league, and he's ready to put in the work to do it.

In an exclusive interview with ClutchPoints, Murphy shared some of the players he patterns his game after.

“I don't look at one specific person, but I take little pieces out of everybody's game. I watch KD (Kevin Durang), Paul George, Jason Tatum, and Brandon Ingram as well,” the Pelicans rookie told ClutchPoints.

Those players match Murphy's body type. They all came into the league with similar abilities as the 21-year-old rookie out of Virginia. Eventually, they became All-Stars, and Murphy wants to become one too. It makes a lot of sense to study those guys.

The list didn't end there, though.

“Then I look at a bunch of different movement shooters like Klay Thompson, Duncan Robinson, and Stephen Curry. That's another part of my game I feel I can really tap into and become deadly with shooting off the ball,” Murphy shared.

In college, Murphy shot 43 percent in his last season at Virginia and 40 percent in his entire three-year college career. He is one of the best shooters in this draft without question, but if you ask him, he might just say he's the best marksmen in this class.

A determined, talented rookie with a chip on his shoulder is a franchise's dream, and the Pelicans have that in Trey Murphy. Winning is what he's about, and hard work is what he's ready to do so one day he could win an NBA Championship, and thats his ultimate goal.
