The NBA world is patiently waiting on the debut of New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson.

The rookie phenom is one of the most talented incoming players to enter the league since LeBron James but injuries have already plagued Williamson. He sat most of the NBA's Summer League with a knee injury and tore his meniscus in the preseason.

The Pelicans are preaching patience to Williamson, and for the 19-year-old, it is perhaps the best gift he can get. He wants to play, but his body must be ready for the rigors of the NBA.

Apparently, it's paying off. Zion Williamson, while signing a young fan's shoes, decided to sign his own shoes instead and gave it to the youngster.

It was an awesome gesture by a talented NBA star waiting to make an impact. But most importantly, it's great for the Pelicans rookie to remain all smiles while going through the process of rehab. Williamson's smile can be infectious and New Orleans fans are in for a treat whenever the big man is around — whether he's playing or not.

Professional athletes get nonstop adulation and the emergence of social media also gives them that same attention and praise. Naturally, for some of these larger-than-life stars, their egos and heads can get boosted.

Zion Williamson could easily be one of those athletes who believes he is bigger than autographs. He could also force his way onto the court, stating he's ready to play. But he is wise enough to not risk his future that way.

This entire sequence should represent why Williamson was drafted first overall. An explosive talent but also a dynamite person who has charisma.

Hopefully, Zion Williamson won't have to trade his sneakers in and he can use them to make monster dunks on the floor for the Pelicans.
