Man City has been heavily linked to Tottenham star Harry Kane this summer, while also reportedly showing interest in signing Aston Villa standout Jack Grealish. However, City boss Pep Guardiola has just put a damper on any potential signings in the coming months with his latest comments, per the Manchester Evening News:

“All the clubs struggling financially and us at Man City are not an exception. We have Gabriel [Jesus], Ferran [Torres] who has been incredible in this position, we have young players in the academy, we play many times with a false-9.

“I don't know what is going to happen. Maybe we're going to buy but maybe, maybe we're not going to buy any striker for the next season. Today there is more chance we aren't going to buy any striker for the next season.”

Man City is certainly heading in the right direction, despite the departure of Sergio Aguero. They've captured three Premier League titles in the last four seasons and finally reached a Champions League Final in May, although they tasted defeat against Chelsea.

There were reports last month that City offered a bag of money to try and sign Kane from Spurs, but it was apparently rejected. As for Grealish, Villa is desperate to keep their main man and has even said they'd give him a massive pay raise in order to keep the England international at the club.

Man City has a very strong squad nonetheless, but the question remains, is another striker a necessity? Aguero was absolutely clinical during his time at the Etihad and the side doesn't really have another reliable frontman. However, Guardiola did operate without a true No. 9 on many occasions last season and it worked out just fine.
