The Philadelphia Phillies are in the middle of a challenging season that is seeing them underperform. It just got even harder for the Phillies to catch up on the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves in the race to the top of the National League East division after Bryce Harper suffered a hand injury that is expected to force him out of action for several weeks.

With Harper sidelined, the Phillies appear to be looking for help in the outfield, and one name that is already being linked to them is Kansas City Royals left fielder Andrew Benintendi, who is still best known for his work with the Boston Red Sox.

Via Jon Morosi of the MLB Network:

Andrew Benintendi is one name to watch if #Phillies trade for an outfielder, as I mentioned on
@MLBNetwork a short time ago. He's on an expiring contract, is having an All-Star year with the #Royals and won a World Series title in Boston with current Phillies GM Dave Dombrowski.

The Red Sox traded Benintendi to the Royals in 2021 before signing a one-year deal worth $8.5 million with Kansas City in May 2022. He's been performing fairly so far for the Royals, as he's triple slashing .303/.368/.391 with a 116 OPS+ and three home runs this season. Moreover, Benintendi is posting a decent .307 BABIP along with a 119 wRC+.

The Phillies are currently using Nick Castellanos as Harper's placeholder in the third spot of their batting order.
