The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets are squaring off for a Mother's Day showdown on Sunday, and Phillies star Bryce Harper got things off to a hot start in the first inning. Up against one of MLB's best pitchers in Max Scherzer, Harper won the battle by crushing a towering solo shot into the seats in right field. After trotting the bases, Harper ran up to the camera in front of the dugout and had a message for his mother saying, “Love you, mom!”

Talk about a wholesome Mother's Day gift. Harper didn't even hesitate to give the shoutout to his mom before re-entering the Phillies dugout after his colossal solo shot off of Scherzer. We're sure seeing that moment was incredibly special for Harper's mother.

The home run was Harper's sixth of the season and he opened up the scoring early for the Phillies in their NL East rivalry matchup with the division-leading Mets. Any time you can get runs on the board against Max Scherzer early in a game, it's a big win. But to be able to do it on Mother's Day and then share a touching message for your mom on camera? Now that's an awesome start to what should be an incredible ball game.

The reigning NL MVP is looking to re-discover his form at the plate. Entering Sunday's game, Harper had a slash line of .240/.297/.490 with 5 home runs and 17 RBI. Hopefully, that early homer off of Scherzer will be the catalyst for a hot streak from the Phillies' superstar.
