The Detroit Pistons signed LiAngelo Ball earlier this month and his tenure with the franchise didn't last long. Following being waived by the Pistons on Sunday, LaVar Ball didn't hold back in his criticism of Detroit's organization.
While doing an AMA on Bleacher Report, LaVar was asked about his son being released by the Pistons over the weekend:
“I definitely have thoughts on that. The people in Detroit are great. I love the fans, but the franchise over there is raggedy as hell. They (Pistons) don’t know a good player. I was giving them a lottery pick for free! Has the skills to play and the notoriety to bring everybody to the game. How do you throw that out the window? They’re gonna learn the hard way. My boys are gonna end up together playing somewhere. ‘Gelo can shoot the lights out. That was raggedy what they did. But hey, they’re gonna learn the hard way.”
Of course, both Lonzo Ball and LaMelo Ball were early first-round picks after LaMelo was selected No. 3 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. Given that, LiAngelo was the only Ball brother that was seeking a contract for an NBA team. That team won't be the Pistons, even though initial signs seemed to be encouraging.
Soon after the draft, the Pistons signed LiAngelo to give him a chance to earn a roster spot during training camp. However, despite suiting up for Detroit's latest preseason contest, the Pistons didn't waste much time parting ways with him.
It goes without saying that LaVar believes LiAngelo was treated unfairly and he's still focused on having all of his sons play for the same team at some point. At the same time, he is confident that waiving LiAngelo is going to be a regrettable decision by the Pistons.
