Rumors began circulating over the weekend on the potential of Pittsburgh star wideout Jordan Addison entering the transfer portal. On Tuesday, those rumors came to fruition as Addison officially entered the transfer portal.

USC seems primed to scoop Addison up from the Panthers, led by recently-hired head coach Lincoln Riley. Riley has already helped undergo a massive transformation at USC, bringing in handfuls of transfers including from his former team, Oklahoma. Addison is just the latest potential addition, as he and quarterback Caleb Williams would lead to high expectations for USC in 2022.

In the meantime, Pittsburgh HC Pat Narduzzi reportedly called Riley to voice his displeasures regarding USC reaching out to Addison. While a return to Pittsburgh remains an option, USC is likely the favorite. It's been speculated that the star wideout will receive upwards of six-figures if he leaves for USC.

Addison had a season for the ages in 2021, earning honors for the best wide receiver in CFB in the process, the Biletnikoff award. In 14 games, he caught 100 passes for 1,593 yards and 17 touchdowns. Paired with NFL first-round pick QB Kenny Pickett, they helped Pittsburgh to its winningest season since 1981.

Heading into the 2022 season, Pittsburgh was expected to be a preseason top-10 team. They returned a lot of their guys from last season's 11-win team. Additionally, they were able to replace Pickett with former USC quarterback Kedon Slovis. Slovis' best year came in 2019 as a freshman, where he threw for 3,502 yards and 30 touchdowns on 71.9% completion percentage. Despite a drop-off in two seasons since, he was a coveted transfer and a huge get for Pittsburgh.

Addison's admission into the portal is just the latest transfer news in college sports since NIL has taken over. NIL allows players to make money off their own name, image, and likeness. In turn, it's led to a lot of change within college sports, particularly football and basketball. Now, a battle between USC and Pittsburgh for Addison's services ensues.
