Tiger Woods and his son, Charlie, combined to shoot a 10-under (62) in the opening 18 holes of the 2020 PNC Championship.

Charlie largely carried the load for his dad, who was struggling with an iffy back, at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.

The supremely talented and confident 11-year-old was impressive throughout the day, at no point more than on his historic eagle on the par 5 third hole—and he didn't need much help from his dad.

After Charlie hit a superior drive to Tiger's (a theme of the day), the younger Woods made the bold move to use a 3-wood, and hooked it around some trees and towards the green. The ball bounced up to within three feet of the hole—perhaps the best shot of the day. After his dad's attempt sailed past the green, Charlie finished off the eagle by sinking the short putt.

“I've seen this,” Woods said, via ESPN. “A lot of the shots he's hit. I've seen it this entire year, this entire pandemic. He hit these shots. The few events he's played in, he's hit a lot of these shots. But this is a totally different deal.”

Charlie's skills caught the eye of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, who knows a thing or two about raising a son who excels in the same craft as his dad.

Clearly, Tiger was proud of his son's much-hyped performance, as well.

“He did. He hit some of the most incredible golf shots,” the 14-time major champion said afterwards. “He had the best time. It couldn't have been a better environment.”

Overall, the Woods combined to shoot an 8-under on the front nine, followed by three birdies and a bogey to shoot 34 on the back nine.

Tiger and Charlie played with Justin Thomas and his father, Mike, who combined to shoot 62, as well.

Team Woods trail leaders Matt and Cameron Kuchar by four strokes halfway through the 36-hole competition.
