Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi is listed as “day-to-day,” Sportsnet hockey reporter Roman Josi wrote in a Sunday tweet.
He did not go with Nashville for Sunday's game against the New York Rangers.
The 32-year-old defenseman left on Saturday's 3-2 overtime victory by the Winnipeg Jets for “undisclosed reasons,” according to the Tennessean. He did not play in the second or third periods. The Predators said he was still being evaluated and the team would have an update on Sunday after the game.
“He's our best player,” said forward Luke Evangelista. “When he goes down it's a huge loss, but I thought some guys that maybe don't usually play those big minutes really stepped up.”
Roman Josi, who cemented his Predators legacy after he became the franchise's leading scorer after he scored a goal and dished an assist against the Chicago Blackhawks in December, has played in 67 games for Nashville in the 2022-23 season. The former SC Bern star and a second-round pick in the 2008 NHL entry draft, Josi has played in 827 games since he first suited up for the Predators in a 2011 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. He earned two All-Star selections and one James Norris Memorial Trophy, given “to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position,” according to the NHL.
Roman Josi joins many players on the team's injury report, including centre Ryan Johansen, forward Juuso Parssinen, defenseman Alexandre Carrier, winger Filip Forsberg and defenseman Ryan McDonagh, Pro Hockey Rumors writer Josh Cybulski wrote in a Sunday article. Defenseman Ryan Lindgren, the only player to appear on New York's injury list, was listed as “day-to-day” on ESPN's report.
The Predators will face the Rangers at 7 p.m. EDT on Sunday in Madison Square Garden. The game will be broadcasted on Bally Sports South or can be streamed on ESPN+.
