The Los Angeles Rams planned to re-evaluate their schemes and rotations after falling short yet again in the NFL Playoffs. While Matthew Stafford ran the air attacks, Sean McVay trusted Kyren Williams to get them yards through the ground. There was a lot of optimism for this squad's rushing game headed into OTAs. This was largely because Blake Corum is also joining the squad. However, those hopes may have just been derailed.

Tough injury for Sean McVay's squad

Kyren Williams has an issue with his foot, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. This disallows him from participating in the Rams' offseason program this spring. But, the optimism is there for him to make a return to Sean McVay's squad before training camps commence during the summer and early fall.

This is not the first time Kyren Williams had some sort of foot injury. Back in 2022, he also fractured his foot during the spring and it required surgery. The injury was a fifth Jones fracture alongside a metatarsal with a screw. His injury history also suggests that the Rams might need to brace themselves for damages to his hands and ankles. All three of these are integral for him to perform his rushing duties to help Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford get some variety on offense.

Nonetheless, Williams is still a big part of the Rams' schemes. He had a big year in 2023 which he hopes to build on. Throughout 228 attempts, he notched 1,144 rushing yards for Sean McVay. Moreover, he also led the league in yards per game as he recorded a gain of 95.3 on a nightly basis. His lethality near the end zone also started to show which benefited the Rams quite a lot. This notched him 12 touchdowns in 12 games.

All of this helped him get a big accolade too. The former star running back for Notre Dame was selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career. With all of this development and glory at stake, he will definitely be inspired to make a swift injury return to the Rams.

Rams, not short of running backs

Williams can take all of his time to recover rather than rushing back to the Rams. After all, the foot's mechanics are the most important for any elite rusher in the league. Other Rams will also be able to step up for the squad despite his absence in OTAs.

Blake Corum, a national champion out of the Michigan Wolverines, will be the secondary rusher on the Rams rotation come next year. He will get a lot more time and exposure against the starting defense due to Williams' absence. The same goes for Ronnie Rivers, Scott Evans, and Boston Scott who are all trying to crack into the 53-man roster come fall.

If all of them get to develop into elite running backs, Matthew Stafford won't have too much of a headache whenever they can't get anything going. While they wait for Williams' return, there are a lot of very productive trainings they could execute at OTAs.
