If there was ever a Rookie of the Year award for coaches, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay would absolutely take it home this season. Just 31, McVay has managed to steer the Rams into clinching the franchise’s first playoff spot in 13 years.

As for individual success, McVay has become the youngest coach to get his team into the postseason since a 33-year-old John Madden did it with the Oakland Raiders way back in 1969.

McVay has the appearance of a miracle worker, transforming the Rams into division champions in his first year on the job with dramatic improvements on both ends of the field. After going 4-12 a year ago, the Rams now boast an 11-5 mark heading into the playoffs.

Last season, the Rams were dead last in scoring offense and total offense. This time around, they finished the regular season first and 10th in those categories, respectively. With help from tried-and-tested defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, the Rams went from being 23rd in scoring defense last season to 12th this year.

McVay, who was the Washington Redskins' offensive coordinator before the Rams hired him as head coach, will now try to prove that there’s more to his coaching wizardry than regular season success when his squad takes on the Atlanta Falcons in a wild card matchup Saturday evening.
