Although such a move hardly comes as a surprise, which is still somehow an understatement, the New York Rangers have officially selected Canadian winger Alexis Lafrenière with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Far and away considered to be the best all-around player in this year's NHL Draft class, Lafrenière will now bring his talents south of the border en route to the bright lights of the Big Apple and the world-famous Madison Square Garden.

Lafrenière has been linked to the Rangers since back in August when New York pulled off the unthinkable by winning the 2020 NHL Draft Lottery after also participating in this year's postseason activities.

The soon-to-be 19-year-old Lafrenière most recently served as the captain of Rimouski Océanic, an organization that plays its hockey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Formerly tabbed as the No. 1 overall pick by Rimouski Océanic back in 2017 as well, the Rangers newcomer promptly earned the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Rookie of the Year Award in addition to being named to the league's top All-Star team as a result of his rookie campaign.

Last season, Lafrenière notably recorded a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League-leading 112 points thanks to his 35 goals and 57 assists in what would become his final go-round in Canada.

Due to his unique skill set and more than likely ability to adapt to the NHL right off the bat, it will be interesting to see how the Rangers utilize Lafrenière during his rookie season. While the soon-to-be first-year winger will no doubt crack the Rangers' roster in 2020-21, Lafrenière could even see some time as a top-six forward for New York.
