Kawhi Leonard put on a show for the Toronto Raptors crowd on Friday against the Boston Celtics. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year scored 31 points while shooting 10-of-25 from the field, 2-of-5 from the 3-point line, and 9-of-9 from the free-throw line to help Toronto beat Boston by a final score of 113-101.

While he was at the charity stripe, the fans in Toronto started chanting “MVP, MVP” at Kawhi Leonard. While the All-Star small forward appreciates the love from the crowd, Leonard believes the chants are a bit premature, via Josh Lewenberg of TSN.

Look, all the fans in Toronto know that Kawhi Leonard can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019. They have heard the rumors that he wants to play in Los Angeles. It can’t hurt the crowd to serenade Leonard with too much love.

The Raptors have roughly 12 months to convince Leonard to re-sign with them. Toronto can offer Leonard almost $50 million more than any other team in 2019, including a fifth year. The Raptors have a great chance to get to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history with Leonard in the mix. Toronto had the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference last season and is essentially replacing DeMar DeRozan with Kawhi Leonard.
