Toronto Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet says people are tired of racism, and he believes the tragic death of George Floyd has pushed people to a “boiling point.”

Floyd was killed in Minnesota by a police officer, who has since been charged with third-degree murder. All across America, there are protests going on.

VanVleet says the system in America needs to change:

Fred VanVleet and numerous players in the NBA have spoken on the devastating killing of George Floyd, who had a close relationship with NBA champion Stephen Jackson. Tho two even called each other “Twin” due to their similar appearance.

With the NBA still on hold, NBA players are using this time to be with their families and spread awareness about things that are meaningful to them. The COVID-19 pandemic and sports hiatus have taken a backseat in the headlines while the protests around America continue, and VanVleet will do his part to help enact change as he prepares for the season to return later in the summer.

Before the 2019-20 season was suspended due to COVID-19, VanFleet was averaging 17.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 6.6 assists for the Raptors in 48 games. The 26-year-old, who becomes an unrestricted free agent whenever the 2020 offseason period begins, was shooting 40.9 percent from the field, 38.8 percent from beyond the arc and 84.3 percent from the free-throw line for the Raptors.

VanFleet and the Raptors were in second place in the Eastern Conference standings prior to games getting suspended in March.
