Toronto fans chant ‘Paul Pierce sucks’ in response to him picking Raptors in 6

Danny Green Kawhi Leonard Paul Pierce

It seems Toronto Raptors fans are well aware of the so-called “Paul Pierce Curse.”

Toronto fans were up in arms during Game 1 of the 2019 NBA Finals on Thursday. They collectively chanted, “Paul Pierce sucks!” in Pierce’s direction toward the broadcast booth. For his part, Pierce egged them on, cupping his hands against his ears as the chants grew louder.

This may sound ironic considering the fact Pierce predicted the Raptors will prevail over the Golden State Warriors in six games.

However, Pierce has predicted most of this season’s NBA playoff series wrong. Whenever he picks a particular team to prevail, the opponent prevails in the end.

For instance, Pierce boldly proclaimed the second-round playoff series between the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks was “over” after Boston won Game 1 on the road. Alas, the Bucks beat the Celtics in four straight games after that game, per NBC Sports Boston’s Jacob Camenker.

Pierce then said, “The Bucks got this,” after Milwaukee beat Toronto in the first two games of the Eastern Conference Finals. However, the Raptors won the next four games to secure their first-ever NBA Finals berth.

Now, the Raptors fans wish Pierce called it the other way – they feel the Raptors would win if Pierce chooses the Warriors. In fairness to Pierce, he’s entitled to his opinion. Unfortunately, most of his predictions have been off the mark.

Let’s see who gets the last laugh in the end.
