In the last several months, the relationship between Pro Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry and the Miami Dolphins has become a bit worn. According to Omar Kelly of the Baltimore Sun, it nearly led to the Baltimore Ravens acquiring Landry prior to the trade deadline this past season.

According to the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens inquired about trading for Landry during the 2017 offseason. The Dolphins fielded offers for Landry and running back Jay Ajayi at the NFL trade deadline in October, but decided to only move Ajayi, who was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2018 fourth-round pick.

Although this signals a possibility that Landry may play elswhere in 2018, the two sides have reportedly begun contract negotiations over the last several days. The 25-year-old previously stated he would not sign a hometown discount deal to remain with the Dolphins. He is set to hit the open market for the first time in his brief NFL career.

Landry is clearly aiming to get paid like the top-tier wide receiver that he has played like through his first four years. He is coming off his most productive campaign with a career-high 112 receptions, 987 receiving yards, and a career-best nine touchdowns. He also set the Dolphins' record for most catches in a single season, topping the previous mark he set back 2015 with 110 receptions. Landry is also the fastest player in NFL history to reach 400 receptions.

The two sides may be discussing a deal, but things could quickly become stagnant if money becomes an issue. Landry's looking to get a significant pay raise from the rookie contract that saw him earn just $3.4 million over the duration of the deal. Teams like Baltimore could quickly swoop in with offers in the range he's looking for. This is certainly a developing situation to keep an eye on over the next several weeks.
