The Boston Red Sox are passing their trial by fire with flying colors. Despite several injuries to their key players this season, they have survived and clawed their way to the second spot in their division. Catching up with the Yankees is a tall task, but they're slowly but surely chipping away at their big lead.

Their latest success against their rivals saw the Red Sox thrash the league-leading Yankees in the final game of their series. That win comes just 24 hours after Jeter Downs sparked a 10th inning comeback to defeat their rivals. Needless to say, this team is “fired up”, according to Alex Verdugo. (via New York Post)

“Feels good. The boys played well,” the Red Sox’s Alex Verdugo said. “For the guys to keep fighting … it gets the boys fired up.”

The Red Sox' season has been filled with injury after injury to their players. In particular, their pitching crew has been decimated by the injury bug. Chris Sale and Nathan Eovaldi are two of the many slingers that have missed significant time this year. In fact, their Saturday night game against the Yankees saw two more pitchers leave the game due to injury. The injury bug has also caught their best hitter, Rafael Devers, who missed the Sunday tilt due to back issues.

The good news for the Red Sox is that most of their important pitchers will be returning from injury soon. Sale and Eovaldi have made significant progress in their rehab stints. In due time, the team will be ready to contend for the World Series title again. Verdugo himself is excited for the return of their pitching stars.

“A lot of our top-tier guys are down. But a lot of our guys are coming back,” Verdugo said. “We’re really excited to get our horses back.”
