Chris Sale has had quite an unfortunate streak of injuries over the past few years. He got shut down early in 2019, and ended up needing Tommy John surgery that offseason, which held him out for the entire 2020 season.

He would make his way back towards the end of the 2021 season, but clearly wasn't 100 percent. Sale seemed set to be back on track with a full offseason of preparation for the 2022 season, but he suffered a rib injury before Spring Training that kept him out until July.

Sale finally made his season debut last week, and had a solid five inning outing against the Tampa Bay Rays. It was the best Sale had looked in the past few seasons.

Unfortunately, things went downhill fast for Chris Sale in today's start against the New York Yankees. Sale ran into trouble early in the first inning against a tough Yankees lineup, and ended up being forced to leave the game when he took a line drive off his hand. Cameras caught Sale's hand in the aftermath, and it looked as if his pinky finger was broken.

I'm no doctor, but Sale's finger doesn't look to be in great shape there, and it would appear another trip to the injured list may be in store for him. It's just another roadblock for Sale, who has struggled to stay healthy in the aftermath of Boston's 2018 World Series run.

And for the Red Sox, the injuries just continue to pile up. Their pitching staff has been hit hard over the past month, and Chris Sale coming back was supposed to be a big help. Instead, he's likely going to miss more time, adding to the woes for the Sox as they stumble into the All-Star break.
