It's been a solid offseason for the Detroit Red Wings so far, as the front office made some great decisions through the NHL Draft. Now, the team focuses on free agency where the franchise is continuing to make smart choices. The organization acquires Andrew Copp after he left the New York Rangers.

According to ESPN, the Red Wings improve their depth after signing Copp to a five-year $28.1 million deal. It's a move that gives Detroit a massive advantage on offense, as Andrew Copp shined with the Rangers after their mid-season trade to acquire him.

Now, the veteran center moves onto Detroit where he should fit in nicely. After recording eight goals and 18 points in the regular season in New York, Copp managed to earn solid playing time on a Rangers team stacked with centers and forwards. He looked sharp throughout the postseason and should bring that same tenacity to the Red Wings next year.

For that reason, Andrew Copp seems to be a great signing for Detroit. We'll have to see how it plays out, but as of now, the Red Wings have a great group of offensive players to lean on next season. If that's the case, then this team could take massive steps in improvement and chase after a playoff spot.

We'll see what other moves the Red Wings could make during free agency. Depth was a major concern last season but the front office has done a spectacular job at fixing that issue. If Detroit can string together a solid roster, they could be a problem for opposing teams in the NHL.
