The NFL might have stayed silent for a while, but not for long. The scathing report from the Washington Post detailed the appalling workplace environment from within the Washington Redskins organization. The NFL has now released its statement on the reporting bombshell.

NFL insider Ian Rapaport shared the league's official reaction to the news:

“These matters as reported are serious, disturbing and contrary to the NFL’s values,” the statement said. “Everyone in the NFL has the right to work in an environment free from any and all forms of harassment. Washington has engaged outside counsel to conduct a thorough investigation into these allegations. The club has pledged that it will give its full cooperation to the investigator and we expect the club and all employees to do so. We will meet with the attorneys upon the conclusion of their investigation and take any action based on their findings.”

While the message is pretty standard for a governing body, there's not much else to go on from their statements that we weren't already expecting or knew about. The league is probably gathering all the details right now, with the true penalty yet to come to fruition.

However, short of forcing the departure of Dan Snyder himself, the NFL doesn't seem to have much ammunition. They can choose to strip them of draft selections, or possibly impose a stiff fine. But those hardly seem like equal retribution for the alleged misconduct that went on for years.

Time will tell how the league will press forward on this.
