The Washington Redskins signed Thaddeus Moss as an undrafted free agent after the 2020 NFL Draft. He was a tight end at LSU and many thought he would land somewhere in the middle rounds.

That didn't happen though, mostly due to injury concerns.

However, it's not the fall of Thaddeus Moss that makes him such a big story, it's the last name. Yes, as everyone knows by now because writers feel the need to put it in every article about the tight end 15 times, Moss is the son of Randy Moss, one of the greatest wide receivers of all-time.

As you could imagine, the son has had to deal with a lot of comparisons to his father over the years. And according to Kyle Stackpole of Redskins.com, Thaddeus Moss spoke about living in his father's shadow.

“Having the last name that I have, a lot of people think that I was handed a lot of things or that I was given a lot of things, but that’s actually the opposite,” Moss said. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work for everything. Whatever my NFL career is, whether that be one year, two, three, four, five to 10, you’re going to have to respect it, because I worked for everything. I wasn’t given anything.”

Thaddeus Moss immediately brings up his last name. People assume he was handed things, but it was actually the opposite. There is pretty obvious proof of this if you look at any analysis of the tight end before the draft.

Everyone seemed so afraid to overrate him because of his father. And that led many to basically write off Thaddeus Moss.

So the tight end had to prove he was worth it. And it's not hard to imagine it was the same way throughout his life. Moss likely dealt with a lot of the “he only has that role because of his father” arguments. Proving those people wrong has been a gift of his though, and now Moss looks to prove them wrong again.

Just know that his name has nothing to do with the opportunities he's been given. And he's poised to make his own legacy in the NFL starting in 2020.
