The Washington Redskins began their 2018 NFL season with a strong 24-6 win at home over the Arizona Cardinals that put them in an early tie atop of the NFC East.

This saw former Pro Bowl running back Adrian Peterson helped lead the charge with an impressive first official game with the Redskins posting 96 rushing yards on 26 carries with a touchdown along with two receptions for 70 receiving yards. Following the game, offensive tackle Trent Williams voiced much excitement about what Peterson brings to the table and what may lie ahead, via  Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

Left tackle Trent Williams said “that’s the Adrian we know and love right there” after the game and it was the kind of performance that we haven’t seen much of from Peterson in the last couple of years. Peterson still found things lacking in his first outing with his new team.

Peterson displayed much of that same burst and explosion that he showcased in the preseason that had enlisted much confidence in him from the coaching staff to give the starting job just two weeks into joining the team. The 34-year-old looked like a workhorse running back that can carry the load offensively on a weekly basis now that he's healthy and past that previous neck injury that derailed last season for him.

The key may be seeing how his body reacts as the season wears on as that has been his primary issue over the last couple of years. He got off to an extremely promising start last season with the Cardinals after being acquired as he posted a pair of performances north of 130 rushing yards but his production steadily declined as he began to have health issues.

The opportunity is in front of Peterson to continue to take advantage of the workload that the Redskins appear to be willing to give him. Week 2 action against the Indianapolis Colts will be another test to see what he has left at this point of his career.
