Fans of the Washington Redskins were curious to see what Ron Rivera would decide to do with Jordan Reed and it appears he's made a choice. According to ESPN's Field Yates, Washington has released Reed.

Last preseason, Reed suffered a concussion after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit from Keanu Neal of the Atlanta Falcons. Concussions have been a constant issue for Reed as his latest one was reportedly the seventh concussion of his football career.

Despite the injury occurring last preseason, Reed missed the entire 2019 season with the Redskins. As a matter of fact, he was finally cleared from the NFL's concussion protocol on Wednesday.

When Reed has been able to remain healthy, he's proven to be an incredible playmaker in an offense. However, remaining healthy hasn't been a consistent aspect of Reed's career thus far.

The most games that Reed has played in a single season is 14 with the Redskins in 2015. That season, the Florida product hauled in a career-high 87 receptions for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Altogether, Reed has been sidelined a total of 47 games in his seven years in the NFL. Despite his injury concerns, Reed intends to continue playing in the NFL in 2020.

For the Redskins, releasing Reed clears $8.5 million in cap space. At the same time, they will also incur a dead-cap penalty of only $1.8 million. In light of Reed's release, the Redskins have a glaring hole at the tight end position this offseason.

After the 2019 season, Vernon Davis announced his retirement and Reed is no longer with the team. With injuries hindering his playing career, it's hard not to root for Reed to succeed elsewhere in the 2020 season.
