What would the NBA be without a little end-game officiating controversy?

The Memphis Grizzlies beat the Denver Nuggets on a Marc Gasol buzzer beater that ended the game 108-107 Tuesday night.

While the Nuggets had a chance to stop him, the problem is the fact that the Grizzlies had the opportunity to win due to a bad call.

The Nuggets were called for an out of bounds play they did not initiate according to the league's official Last Two Minute Report.

“Angles reviewed in the Replay Center appeared to show Mudiay (DEN) touch the ball prior to it going out of bounds. The call on the floor was therefore confirmed as MEM possession. However, upon review of an additional angle postgame, it was determined that Mudiay did not touch the ball and possession should have been awarded to DEN”

The NBA replay center was implemented not only for transparency, but to help alleviate some of the problems with fast action calls that were hard to judge in tight games.

Not only did they miss the out of bounds play, but one which happened previous to it which caused the Nuggets to gain the lead.

Here is a play where Mike Conley was fouled with no call.

As unbelievable as it may be, the Nuggets were called for knocking the ball out of Conley's hands the second time although he may have just lost the ball.

The review later ruled Gary Harris‘ steal from Conley a foul, and Emmanuel Mudiay‘s dunk a travel. Both sequences led to the Nuggets gaining the lead.

Nothing usually happens as a result of game correction notes, but the league's line of thinking is that at least they acknowledge when a call is missed.

Understandably, Denver is not letting this one go away as they are filing a protest.
