Resident Evil 4 remains one of the highest-grossing horror games of all time. Within just the Resident Evil franchise, the fourth chronological game in the series has sold over ten million copies across console generations. Now, the sixteen-year-old game from 2005 will be available once again on a brand-new platform. That's right, Resident Evil 4 VR will be coming soon, and it's going to be a delightfully horrific experience.

RESIDENT EVIL 4 VR RELEASE DATE: MORE DETAILS TO COME ON APRIL 21, 2021

Capcom revealed Resident Evil 4 VR during the Resident Evil Village April Showcase last week. The game will become available on the Oculus Rift. The gameplay footage so far teases a great-looking game that will be an instant classic. While we don't have a release date yet, fans can learn more about Resident Evil 4 VR during a special live stream. You can tune in to that live stream on Oculus' Facebook and Twitch channels on April 21, 2021.

It's fitting that Capcom chose Resident Evil 4 as their first VR remake for their older titles. Resident Evil 4 historically brought about a new era in the Resident Evil franchise. It let go of the archaic tank controls of the old games. It got rid of the static camera. Resident Evil 4 went for an action-oriented, fast-paced third-person shooter, fit for the modern audience while retaining the tense atmosphere that Resident Evil fans knew and loved.

While many old-time fans saw this as a departure from what they've loved, Resident Evil 4 up to Resident Evil 6 all did spectacularly commercially because of their mainstream appeal. The Resident Evil franchise returned to its roots in the seventh title, Resident Evil 7, which will receive a direct sequel in the upcoming Resident Evil Village.
