Riot’s highly anticipated free-to-play fighting game 2XKO is about to enter its first Alpha Lab Playtest. The developers initially released sign-ups for fans for direct information for when the game’s alpha registration comes out. Just recently, the devs sent out e-mails to those who signed up, notifying them that they can now register.

For those who missed out on the initial sign-ups, don’t fret. Interested players still have the opportunity to participate in the Alpha Lab Playtest. Here’s everything fans need to know.

How to Register for the 2XKO Alpha Lab Playtest

Fans who are eager to sign up for 2XKO’s Alpha Lab Playtest can register here.

To give a general idea of how the registration works, players must first sign into their Riot accounts. If one doesn’t have an existing account yet, they should create a new one. Not having a Riot account won’t make one eligible to register for the alpha.

After linking the Riot account, players will then receive an e-mail with a link to a survey. Everyone who registered must answer the survey to participate in Alpha Lab. The survey will only take 3-5 minutes to answer. It’ll mostly ask everyone about their experience in fighting games, what games they currently play, and which gaming platforms they currently own.

Upon completion, registrants will then have to wait until Riot sends an official invite. It’s worth noting that signing up for Alpha Lab won’t guarantee a slot, especially if one isn’t from the participating regions.

As of the first Alpha Lab Playtest, the participating regions include the USA, Canada, the UK, France, Brazil, Japan, and Mexico. While it’s likely that Riot will focus on inviting players from these specific regions to participate in the alpha, there’s a small probability that players from other regions might be able to join. For as long as the ping wouldn’t be an issue, playing outside the participating regions is possible. However, readers should take this with a grain of salt. Nothing is certain for now considering how the developers didn’t specify if the regions are strict.

2XKO’s Alpha Lab Playtest will take place on August 8, 2024, and will last until August 19, 2024. As of the first playtest, only PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC players could gain access.

The Goal of the 2XKO Alpha Lab Playtest

Tom Cannon, the Senior Director and Executive Producer of 2XKO, recently revealed that they aim to launch the game come the summer of 2025. Having that in mind, the free-to-play fighting game could likely launch somewhere between June and September. With that said, we are approximately a year away from the game’s release at the time of this writing.

Given that Riot only has around a year to completely polish their game, the 2XKO Alpha Lab Playtest comes at perfect timing. Since the game’s announcement back in November 2021, news and gameplay have rather been scarce. It was only until recently during EVO Japan 2024 that fans got a taste of the League of Legends-inspired fighting game. With that said, the developers will most likely look into the participants’ feedback after the 11-day-long alpha.

Another likely goal is to have content creators hype the game up more. These influencers would typically stream or upload content of games they get invited to play early. Having fans watch these creators will only get them itching for the game more.
