Rockets’ James Harden opens up about the biggest lesson he learned from Kobe Bryant
Houston Rockets guard James Harden was among the notable faces in attendance for Kobe Bryant’s memorial service held at Staples Center. He then switched gears and traveled back to Houston to lead the Rockets to a 123-112 win over the New York Knicks.
James Harden is a part of a long list of current stars in the NBA that were impacted by Bryant’s time on Earth. He reflected on what resonates most with him after the win, via Salman Ali of ClutchPoints:
“Just his competitive spirit… Obviously the journey is one thing, but the steps you have to take to get to that journey is another. That’s what makes you a champion and that’s what defines you.”
James Harden is part of a select group of current NBA superstars that were fortunate enough to be able to battle it out with Bryant early in their respective careers. As a result, he got to witness firsthand the type of “Mamba Mentality” that he left behind as part of his legacy. The lessons that he took away from those showdowns are something he will always be able to take with him and cherish.
James Harden is in the midst of his own journey as one of the best players in the NBA. Like Bryant, he faces many of the same criticisms when it came to his style of play. Of course, he is still learning to do what it takes in order to take his team to the next level like his basketball idol had done five times before him.
