RUMOR: Eric Gordon wants to retire with Rockets
Gordon, who made $13,500,375 this season, will make $14,057,730 in 2019-20, the final year of his contract.
EG wants to retire in Houston and they want to keep him. I’m sure they’ll come to an agreement sometime next season.
In 68 regular season games in 2018-19, Gordon averaged 16.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists for the Rockets. The 30-year-old shot 40.9 percent from the field, 36.0 percent from beyond the arc and 78.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Gordon is arguably the Rockets’ third-best wing defender behind PJ Tucker and Chris Paul. Add to the fact that he’s a sniper from the 3-point line, and it’s not a surprise to hear the Rockets would like to keep Gordon in Houston. The 2017 Sixth Man of the Year fits in perfectly in head coach Mike D’Antoni’s offensive system and is loved by his teammates.
Gordon and the Rockets are currently up 2-0 against the Utah Jazz in the first round of the playoffs. Houston was one game away from reaching the NBA Finals last season. They lost to the Golden State Warriors in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals.
The Rockets are obviously going to go as far as James Harden can take them, but guys like Gordon, Paul, Tucker and Clint Capela have to play at high levels as well to take some of the offensive pressure off of Harden.
