The Houston Rockets are starting to trim down their roster as it has been reported that they have waived Shawn Long on Tuesday. They had a decision to make on Long as there was a $50,000 guarantee if they keep him beyond the day.

The 24-year-old Louisiana-Lafayette product went undrafted last year, but saw action for the Philadelphia 76ers in the Summer League before he got waived. He was then acquired by their G-League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers. It paid off for him as he received a call up from the Sixers and suited up in 18 games for them last season, averaging 8.2 points, including 56.0 percent shooting from the field, and 4.5 rebounds.

Long was traded to the Rockets during the early days of the offseason in exchange for a future second round pick and cash considerations. With a loaded frontcourt featuring the likes of Clint Capela, Ryan Anderson, Nene, Tarik Black, and Luc Mbah a Moute, just to name a few, he became the odd man out, leading to his exit from the team.

With almost all team rosters already filled, it appears like Long will need to look for a job opening elsewhere. The good news for him is he had a successful G-League stint last year, which could open doors for him again there, or even overseas, where he can prove his worth and work his way back to the NBA .
