New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is set to miss approximately six weeks after suffering a thumb injury that will require surgery, and on Tuesday, he spoke out about the situation:

“I’m confident in the surgery that will take place and will dedicate myself to the rehab process to get back as quickly as I can,” Brees said via text, according to Ed Werder of ESPN.

While Brees is expected to be out six weeks, he said a timetable won't officially be known until after surgery.

Brees completed three of his five passes for 60 yards and an interception on the Saints' loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday before leaving the game with the injury.

On the season overall, Brees has thrown for 408 yards, a couple of touchdowns and a pair of picks while completing 72.9 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 94.8.

Brees is coming off of an MVP-caliber 2018 campaign in which he threw for 3,992 yards, 32 touchdowns and five interceptions, recording a completion percentage of 74.4 percent and posting a passer rating of 115.7.

While it represented the first time Brees threw for under 4,000 yards during his tenure in New Orleans, it was one of his most efficient seasons, and he finished second in MVP voting as a result.

The 40-year-old has made three straight Pro Bowl appearances and has been named a Pro Bowler in 11 of his first 13 seasons with the Saints. He also earned a First-Team All-Pro selection back in 2006, his first year with the club.

Brees spent the first five years of his NFL career with the San Diego Chargers, making one Pro Bowl in 2004 before signing with the Saints in free agency in March 2016.

New Orleans currently owns a record of 1-1 and will take on the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
