The New Orleans Saints made an interesting move during the NFL offseason to sign veteran running back Adrian Peterson. The move was questionable, to say the least with Mark Ingram already in the backfield and the team drafting Alvin Kamara.

So far, Peterson has made little impact in the New Orleans backfield. The future Hall of Famer has rushed for only 81 yards on 27 carries without a touchdown, but running backs coach Joel Thomas claims his breakout game is coming, via Herbie Teope of Nola.com.

“It's just a matter of time,” Thomas said Tuesday in a telephone interview. “I really feel like this block, it's going to break.

“We just have to keep on chipping and you keep grinding, keep getting after something and ultimately something positive is going to come out of this.”

The Saints won't get back on the field until Oct. 15 when they host the Detroit Lions. New Orleans has a bye in Week 5 and is currently sporting a 2-2 record after two consecutive wins over the Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers.

Whether Peterson returns to form or every finds his groove with the Saints remains to be seen. The veteran back has voiced his frustration this year with his lack of carries but has been given opportunities to have a breakout game that simply hasn't come.

Peterson's best game thus far for New Orleans came against the division rival Panthers in which he carried the ball nine times for 33 yards and caught two passes for four yards.
