The New York Jets are finally ready to trade Teddy Bridgewater. The Jets will send the backup quarterback to the New Orleans Saints, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Bridgewater, who had just signed a one-year deal with the Jets this offseason, has reportedly been on the trading block for some time. As recently as last week, a couple of teams had reportedly expressed interest in his services. He had been competing with rookie Sam Darnold and Josh McCown for the Jets' starting quarterback job. But with his departure, Darnold’s status as the likely starter looks all but assured.

Bridgewater will now come in to serve as Drew Brees’ primary backup QB with the Saints. Tom Savage and Taysom Hill had been competing for that role in the preseason. The Saints also have rookie J.T. Barrett on the roster.

After missing the entire 2016 season due to a devastating knee injury, Bridgewater made his return to play in one game late last year.

The young QB had shown a lot of promise prior to suffering that injury. He completed 65 percent of his passes for 3,231 yards with 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions in his first in his first full season as a starter with the Minnesota Vikings in 2015. The Vikings won the NFC North with an 11-5 record with Bridgewater, who was also voted in as a Pro Bowler.

After working his way back from that injury, Bridgewater has since looked impressive this offseason with the Jets, which led to all the interest in his services.
