Finally, Scarlett Johansson confirmed her part in Jurassic World 4.
Speaking to ComicBook at the Fly Me to the Moon press junket, Johansson was asked what it meant to join the franchise.
“Everything,” she responded.
This was due to Johansson's fandom of the project dating back decades. She claimed that Jurassic Park was one of the first movies she ever saw in theaters.
“I'm an enormous Jurassic Park fan,” Johansson said. “It's one of the first films I remember seeing in the theater. I remember seeing it so vividly. It was like life-changing. It was mind-blowing. I cannot express how excited I am.”
Gareth Edwards, fresh off directing The Creator, will helm the fourth Jurassic World. Johansson gave a short tease for fans and what they can expect.
“The script is so incredible,” Johansson said. “David Koepp wrote it. He returned after like 30 years to write the script. He's so passionate about it, which is so awesome.”
The Jurassic World series commenced in 2014 with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard front and center. It was around this time that the MCU really took off. Even then, Johansson was trying to get her name in the running for the franchise.
“I'm such an enormous fan of the franchise and [a] huge nerd for it. I'm just like, I can't even, I'm pinching myself,” Johansson said. “I've been trying to get into this franchise in any possible way for over 10 years. I'm like, ‘I'll die in the first five minutes! I can get eaten by whatever! I'll do the craft service!' I'll do anything for it.
“The fact that it's happened in this way at this time just is actually unbelievable. I can't believe it,” she continued.
What is Jurassic World 4 about?
It is unclear what the Scarlett Johansson-led Jurassic World 4 will be about. There is a chance it separates from the past three movies, which ended with humans and dinosaurs learning to co-exist.
The upcoming fourth Jurassic World movie features an all-star cast around Johansson. Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Ruffo, Rupert Friend, and David Iacono will also star in the movie.
Production recently commenced on the project. The movie will have to be done in a timely manner as Universal has slated the movie for a July 2, 2025 release date. That means they will have less than a year to get the movie's post-production phase done.
Jurassic World 4 is the seventh installment in the overall Jurassic series. The past three movies led by Chris Pratt and Bruce Dallas Howard all grossed over $1 billion at the box office. The fourth movie will hope to continue that trend.
Who is Scarlett Johansson?
Scarlett Johansson is an award-winning actress. She first gained notoriety for her roles in Manny and Lo, The Horse Whisperer, and Home Alone 3.
Her breakthrough came a few years later when she starred in Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation with Bill Murray. She went on to star in The Prestige and The Black Dahlia before landing her MCU role as Black Widow.
She made her MCU debut as Black Widow in Iron Man 2, the third overall movie in the cinematic universe. Johansson would subsequently appear in several other projects including Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Endgame before getting her solo movie in 2021.
Additionally, Johansson has starred in We Bought a Zoo, Don Jon, Under the Skin, Her, Chef, Lucy, The Jungle Book, and the Sing franchise.
In 2020, Johansson was a dual Oscar nominee. She was nominated for Best Actress for her performance in Marriage Story. Her performance in Jojo Rabbit landed her a Best Supporting Actress nod as well.
