The Ben Simmons trade rumors are heating up again now that he has told the Philadelphia 76ers he wants out and won't report to training camp. There are number of reasons for Simmons' unhappiness with the Sixers, including a reported rift with superstar Joel Embiid, but he's also apparently upset with head coach Doc Rivers.

Both Embiid and Rivers tossed Simmons under the bus after the Sixers' disastrous second-round series loss to the Atlanta Hawks in the playoffs. Embiid specifically referenced the infamous play where Simmons failed to shoot late in the game despite being right under the basket for a dunk or layup, while Rivers said he didn't know if Simmons was a championship-level point guard.

Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the man who broke the Simmons story on Tuesday, was on 97.5 The Fanatic talking about the situation and brought up how the disgruntled All-Star is mad at Doc for his comments:

Doc Rivers had been rather supportive of Ben Simmons all season despite his flaws, but the cracks started to show during the playoffs. Simmons becoming invisible offensively in crunch time made him borderline unplayable, and Rivers was just being honest in his assessment afterward.

It's only a matter of time before a Simmons trade goes down. The Sixers have been asking for a lot, but they'll likely have to come down on that price a bit. Still, he is a very talented player who could help just about any team (at least in the regular season), and taking a chance on him makes a lot of sense.

Of course, Ben Simmons also needs to do some self-reflection and recognize his flaws and work harder to change them. He has been rather stubborn about addressing his in-game shortcomings, so he needs a change in mindset in order to become the best player he can be.
