Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid finally reached an agreement with the team on a new five-year, $148 million contract extension on Monday.

The 23-year-old was understandably ecstatic upon signing such a massive deal and he decided to share his joy with Memphis Grizzlies forward and close friend Chandler Parsons.

Parsons posted on Instagram Embiid’s amazing reaction to his rich new contract while the two were video chatting shortly after the deal was made official. Uproxx’s Oliver Maroney posted a screencap on Twitter.

If anyone knows what Embiid must have been feeling, it’s Parsons. Despite a similarly checkered injury history with multiple knee procedures, Parsons was still able to land a massive four-year, $94 million deal with the Memphis Grizzlies last summer.

However, Parsons’ first year in Memphis was a disaster as he averaged just 6.2 points in 34 games. Ironically, he still played more games than his friend Embiid, who managed only 31 games but played so well in those rare appearances that he could still warrant such a huge contract.

With the deal done and dusted, the Sixers can only hope their gamble on Embiid doesn’t backfire as spectacularly as it did with Parsons in Memphis last year.
