Tuesday marked the one-year anniversary of the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. It was an event that caused uproar across the United States among African Americans and people of all colors, for that matter.

In honor of George Floyd, Sixers head coach Doc Rivers is wearing a shirt that sends a clear message to the changes that need to be made in the United States, per ESPN's Malika Andrews:

A strong message. George Floyd's death was just one of many police killings. There have been numerous other African Americans gunned down since. The NBA also released a statement on Tuesday, per TMZ:

“One year ago, the killing of George Floyd advanced a global reckoning around systemic racism and inspired a movement for social justice,” The NBA said. “Today, and every day, members of the NBA family stand united in working for change and a future that provides true equality.”

A serious change needs to happen and as Rivers pointed out, there should be more training when it comes to police officers. Thankfully, Chauvin paid for his actions after being sentenced to up to 40 years in prison.

It will be interesting to see what NBA players have in mind on Tuesday to pay tribute to George Floyd because he has clearly started a movement in America that will go on for many years.

Rest in peace.
