The Philadelphia 76ers have been held hostage all season at the whim of Ben Simmons. Simmons made it clear prior to the start of the season that he was going to hold out until the team traded him. Sixers President of Basketball Operations, Daryl Morey, has insisted he will only trade him if they can get back an elite player in the trade.

Apparently, Sixers superstar Joel Embiid is a strong believer in that sentiment as well.

Joel Embiid reportedly is aligned with Morey and Sixers general manager Elton Brand that they cannot move Simmons unless they get a key player in return.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sixers met with Klutch Sports CEO (who represent Simmons) to discuss the status things. Both sides reportedly walked away from the meeting without any change.

The NBA trade deadline is approaching, which had prompted discussions further discussions of trying to pull off a trade. A number of teams have expressed interest, but the asking price has been too high.

Philadelphia is in the middle of a seven-game winning streak. They have climbed to 23-15 on the season, good enough for the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. They are 4.5 games behind the conference-leading Chicago Bulls.

On paper, the Sixers can play with the big boys in the conference. But in reality, most believe they need another star to take them to the next level.

The Milwaukee Bucks are still the defending champs with mostly the same team back, the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat do not appear to be going anywhere, and the Brooklyn Nets have their big three.
