Barcelona has already done an excellent job taking advantage of the free-agent market ahead of the summer transfer window, with reported signings of Franck Kessie, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Andreas Christensen. The two Chelsea stars may not be the only ones from the London club set to join the Catalan side this summer, however. According to Fabrizio Romano, Barca has been linked with Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso.

Alonso would be an interesting fit for Barcelona, especially considering they've already poached two other Chelsea defenders in Christensen and Azpilicueta amid the Blues' current ownership crisis. With Roman Abramovich electing to sell the team amid his controversial ties to Russia's Vladimir Putin, Chelsea was unable to negotiate new deals with any of its impending free agents. Thus, Barca was able to snap up the pair of defenders, and now could be looking to come back for a third, though Alonso would require a transfer fee.

Alonso's current deal at Chelsea is set to expire in June of 2023, so there's a chance Barcelona would wait an additional year before pursuing him on a free. However, they may want to look to change things up at left-back ahead of the 2022-23 season after a rough year in 2021-22, prompting them to move for him this summer.

The Spanish international has been with Chelsea since 2016 when he made the move from Fiorentina. Since joining the Blues, Alonso has featured in 150 Premier League matches, starting 141. He's scored 24 goals and provided 15 assists in England's top flight across six seasons.

With Jordi Alba already 33, Alonso would represent a (slightly) younger option, considering he's 31, and could help bridge Barca to their left-back of the future.
