The South Carolina Gamecocks have been women's college basketball's top team all season long. They came into the season as the No. 1 ranked team in the country and that has not changed now that conference play has arrived. The Gamecocks rolled to an 85-66 win against Mississippi State on Sunday to extend their win streak to 14 games. Even though South Carolina won comfortably, head coach Dawn Staley was not too pleased with her team and she let that be known during her postgame press conference via Matt Vereen of Wach Fox News.

“It's just getting young people to recognize certain things. Sometimes you do it in different ways, you do it in this tone where it's conversational, or you do it in a demanding tone, and it was more of a demanding tone,” Staley said. “They're so young and they're so really out of it. They're so into their worlds and really don't understand what's happening. That's why we're here as coaches, to help them figure it out. School's out and so their priorities change, they have a lot of time on their hands and probably none of it is dedicated to basketball outside of practice and games.”

This is a young team for Dawn Staley and South Carolina. Following last season, she lost Aliyah Boston, Zia Cooke, Laeticia Amihere and Brea Beal to the WNBA Draft. She has one key upperclassman in senior center Kamilla Cardoso, but she's relying on a bunch of freshmen and sophomores this year.

Even so, some of those young players such as Raven Johnson and MiLaysia Fulwiley have been able to make immediate impacts. In Johnson's case, she's been able to thrive in a bigger role from last season.
