Los Angeles Sparks star and Australian national team member Liz Cambage fired back at a report coming out of Australia that she said a racial slur towards the Nigerian national team last year in Las Vegas.

Cambage took to social media to address the situation and made it crystal clear she didn't do such a thing.

“The incident that took place in the pre-Olympic scrimmage with the Nigerian national team was handled privately almost a year ago,” Liz Cambage, who was playing for the Australian women's national team at the time, wrote Sunday night in a statement posted on Instagram. “I am very disappointed and hurt by the events and accusations that have unfolded in the Australian media. The account of what took place is inaccurate and misleading. I did not use the racial slur toward the Nigerian team that has been circulating.”

The report from Australian media outlet the Sunday Telegraph, claimed Liz Cambage called the players “monkeys” during the game while another player reportedly told the paper Cambage said, “Go back to your third world country.”

Cambage is half Nigerian herself, therefore it's confusing to even think she's saying such a thing. News Corp Australia found a video from the scrimmage though and it showed Liz Cambage elbowing a Nigerian player in the head before slapping another. It sounds like it was a heated affair, but she insists these shocking comments weren't made.
