The Brooklyn Nets have added a pair executives to their ranks over the last few days. After adding former Atlanta Hawks executive Jeff Peterson as an assistant general manager, the Nets are now bringing over Andy Birdsong from the San Antonio Spurs to also hold an assistant GM role:

Birdsong began his career with the Spurs in 2011. After serving as a basketball operations intern, he worked his way up to director of player personnel. He later became general manager of the team's G League affiliate, the Austin Spurs.

Birdsong left the Spurs in 2012, joining the Hawks as their manager of basketball operations. After three seasons with Atlanta, he rejoined the Spurs' staff:

“Andy is an accomplished basketball executive who brings a wealth of experience in talent evaluation and roster construction to our front office team,” Nets general manager Sean Marks said in an official statement. “The knowledge he has garnered from his time as a member of such exemplary organizations as the Spurs and the Hawks will greatly benefit our group. We are excited to welcome Andy, his wife, Megan, and his son, Ace, to Brooklyn.”

Peterson was named assistant general manager with the Nets over the weekend, leaving the Hawks after seven seasons. He held several titles with Atlanta, including basketball operations assistant, coordinator of basketball operations, director of scouting, and assistant general manager:

“We are thrilled to welcome Jeff and his wife, Lauren, to Brooklyn,” Marks said. “Jeff is an innovative basketball executive who shares our strategic team building vision and will fit seamlessly within our culture. His extensive scouting and front office experience will be tremendous assets to our group as we continue to move forward.”

Peterson has a bit of familiarity with Nets coach Kenny Atkinson, as the two worked together in Atlanta from 2012-16. Peterson and Birdsong are replacing Trajan Langdon in Brooklyn. Langdon accepted the general manager position with the Pelicans earlier this month.

The Nets finished the 2018-19 season with a 42-40 overall record, earning a sixth seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. However, Brooklyn was defeated by the Sixers in the first round, 4-1.
